Efficient
Prototype House
Over the past few
years, Halpern Architects has seen an increased interest in smaller,
high
quality, energy efficient, low maintenance homes with architectural
character.
We were recently approached by Timberlake Building and
Renovation,
a local builder, who has also observed a
similar trend. Working with Timberlake, Halpern Architects developed
this
approximately 2,300 square foot home.
Conceptually, this house began as a basic
design of less than
2,000 square feet, with comfortable
but not oversized spaces. Various strategies were employed to produce a
floor plan that is efficient and cost-effective to construct.
The
house was
designed to permit the owners a broad range of options, which would
allow the
overall size of the house to expand to meet the specific needs of the
owner.
This 2,300 square foot version includes several options such as a full
walk-in
dressing room in lieu of master closets, and a full sized combination
mudroom,
laundry and pantry.
As
part of the design process, the floor plan was developed to permit
future additions, so as a family grows or their needs change, the house
can grow with them.
